Conceptual poster design

Overview

WHOLE Festival is an annual queer electronic music and art festival known for its focus on community, collaboration, and radical inclusivity. The conceptual challenge was to translate the atmosphere of the festival into an expressive visual narrative.

Concept

The design imagines the festival as a dreamlike micro-world — a space where identities shift freely and the rave becomes a portal for transformation. Characters, symbols, and surreal environments blend together to reflect the festival’s fluid and communal energy.

Approach

  • Illustrative world-building: figures positioned as protagonists in a shared mythic landscape

  • Cosmic & ethereal motifs: portals, stars, clouds, and architectural elements

  • Pastel-neon palette: bridging dreamscape aesthetics with nighttime rave culture

  • Psychedelic typography: referencing 1970s counterculture and queer liberation movements

Result

The final poster foregrounds queerness, care, and collective joy — core values of WHOLE Festival. By centering characters rather than spectacle, the design reframes rave culture as a site for self-expression, healing, and community-building.
